SENSATION US – LINEUP BIOS & SOUNDS

Sensation taking place on October 26, & 27 at the Barlcays Center in Brookly was SOLD OUT before the lineup was even announced.  Now that it’s been released lets do a quick rundown on who is performing.

MR. WHITE (Friday & Saturday)

In a scene dominated by name-dropping and dj-adoration, Mr. White is somewhat of a magical mystery. Sensation’s pale-faced resident brings you nothing but the best in dancefloor wizzardry. Luring you to the dancefloor with his uncompromising grooves, he is known to warm up even the coldes of dancefloor. Mr. White is the best host Sensation could wish for.

DENNIS FERRER (Friday)

New Yorker Dennis Ferrer has been moving and shaking in the dance music world since the mid-’90s, first making techno-flavored records with Damon Wild under the name Morph. But it wasn’t until 2003 that Ferrer truly broke through. “Sandcastles,” a track he made alongside Jerome Sydenham, became a worldwide dancefloor smash, giving him his first glimmers of recognition in the electronic music world at large. Further acclaimed tracks such as “Son of Raw” and “Church Lady,” remixes for the likes of Blaze, Fish Go Deep, Martin Solveig, and Dido, and a number of mix albums only added to his growing profile. A good chunk of his original material over the years was compiled in 2006 on the album The World as I See It.

FEDDE LE GRAND (Friday & Saturday)

His parties have been rocking the Netherlands since 2001; his label Flamingo Recordings has been pushing its unique sound since 2004; and then in 2006 “Put Your Hands Up For Detroit” full on exploded. The track hit No 1 in the UK, Spain, Russia, Finland and Bulgaria; won Best Underground House Track and Best Breaks/Electro Track at the IMDA 2007, Club Banger Of The Year at the 6th Annual Club Awards in Miami 2008 and secured Fedde the fiercely fought over Best Breakthrough Solo Artist gong at the IMDA 2007.

Tours taking in every continent have been a major feature of Fedde’s career. North America, South America, Australia, Asia and the Far East, Europe – nations have capitulated under his mastery of beats and his sheer presence on the dance floor.

Whether it’s as the uplifting Fedde le Grand playing in front of tens of thousands in A-list venues and stadium arenas, or stripped back and bare as F.L.G. in more intimate surroundings. The passion, integrity and sheer weight of individuality and originality that he brings to the table sees him take his place as one of the most influential electronic pioneers of modern times.

 JORIS VOORN (Friday)

Joris Voorn (25 February 1977, Moergestel) is a Dutch DJ who currently resides in Amsterdam. Amongst being a renowned DJ, Joris is a graduate in architecture. Joris is the co-owner of the Amsterdam based labels Rejected (with Edwin Oosterwal) & Green. He plays his own house-style which is considered close to Detroit Techno.

Like many famed musicians, Voorn had a strong affiliation with music at a young age when he learned how to play the guitar and the violin (His Father was a composer of Music), when he grew up in the City of Schiedam. However, once the radio opened his mind to newer influences Voorn became hooked on Techno. During his education, he entered and won a DJ competition in Enschede which kick-started Joris’ musical career. As of 1997, Joris is regularly booked for gigs, and has a residency at the ATAK. However his first production was not until 2002, when he released his Muted Trax EP. This release, as well as support from Carl Craig, Derrick May and Laurent Garnier made him decide to (temporarily) give up the world of architecture and focus on his DJing career. In 2003, His Lost Memories EP becomes another hit and affirms his talent. In the same year Joris is crowned ‘Talent of the Year’ at the Dutch DJ Awards.

NIC FANCIULLI (Friday)

Nic Fanciulli is a DJ, producer and label owner who has remained one of the UK’s finest exports in electronic music throughout the last decade. A Grammy nominated producer, Nic has worked with artists as diverse as Underworld, Kylie Minogue, U.N.K.L.E, Loco Dice, Josh Wink and Tracey Thorn in addition to producing a plethora of solo club focused tracks that have achieved both critical and commercial acclaim. Now releasing on the likes of Rejected and Souvenir, Nic is responsible for a high output of a sleek, intelligent yet driving strain of house and techno.

Perhaps most significantly, Nic’s own Saved Records has become an important purveyor of international, underground house and techno. Having helped develop the imprint into a recognisable label since 2005, Nic and his clutch of impressive Saved artists have travelled the globe with the brand, spreading their musical manifesto far and wide. Always with a keen eye on bringing new talent through, Nic has used Saved as a platform to break new and exciting young producers as well as maintaining a desire to put out quality releases from other stalwarts of the scene. At only five years old, Saved is continuing to expand the legacy of Nic Fanciulli.

DANNY TENAGLIA (Saturday)

Danny Tenaglia has remixed and produced several sizeable club hits but still remains most well-known for his DJ residencies at the top New York clubs of the 1990s — including Twilo (previously Sound Factory) and the Tunnel — plus a spate of mix albums, several of his own LPs and a publicized feud with fellow super DJ Junior Vasquez. Raised in Brooklyn, he listened to Motown and the Philly sound as a child, and learned to play guitar and saxophone. At the age of 12, however, a friend introduced him to the world of DJ mixtapes and Tenaglia became fascinated with mixing techniques. He began hustling tapes on the street and, when he was old enough, hit the Manhattan club-scene with gusto. Coming of age in the late ’70s introduced him to the club and DJ often cited as the best of all time, the Paradise Garage and Larry Levan. Tenaglia spent much time observing Levan, and began his own DJ career soon after. Though he moved to Miami in 1985 to escape a glut of New York DJs, he was back by 1990, right on the cusp of a new house renaissance led by producers like Masters at Work and Frankie Knuckles, and the output of Strictly Rhythm and Nervous Records.

Tenaglia had begun producing in the mid-’80s during his spell in Miami (a single from his Deepstate project signed to Atlantic and he also worked with Murk’s Ralph Falcon) so by the time of his return to New York, he was quite comfortable in the studio. Tenaglia productions began appearing on labels like Minimal, Sexy, Tribal and Strictly Rhythm; he really hit the mainstream with a 1993 remix of the Daou’s “Surrender Yourself,” a house epic which pioneered the harder underground sound which stormed Manhattan clubland (and therefore, most of America’s dance scene) during the mid-’90s. With friend Junior Vasquez, Tenaglia was the city’s most popular DJ and his residency at Twilo became legendary as the home of the most emotional dance music being mixed anywhere.

Cementing Danny Tenaglia’s connection with Tribal Records America was the 1994 club hit “Bottom Heavy”; it also led to abundant remix work for Madonna, Michael Jackson, Pet Shop Boys, Grace Jones, Jamiroquai, New Order and Lisa Stansfield, among others. His debut album, 1995’s Hard & Soul, did well and Tenaglia hosted several Tribal mix albums, including two volumes in the Mix This Pussy series plus Gag Me with a Tune. His second proper album Tourism was released in 1998. Global Underground: Athens and Back to Mine followed in 1999. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide

2000 AND ONE (Saturday)

Vision and versatility – the DNA that defines 2000 and One as an artist. Whether he’s performing for 40,000 housecrowds, 2500 techno lovers or 400 party people at an intimate, underground tech-house club, he’ll always cook the dancefloor.

2000 And One (aka Dylan Hermelijn) has been on the forefront of electronic dance music since the late eighties. His pioneering vision across more than two decades of music genres, now ranks him as one the most versatile, in-demand international artists, commanding weekly performances on the house, techno and techhouse global club and festival circuits.

MARK KNIGHT (Saturday)

The embodiment of the modern DJ, Mark Knight’s legacy already ranks him as a leading player in dance music culture’s evolution into the digital and globalised age. His high octane sets, which treble and bass their way right across the dance music spectrum, have caused dance floor carnage in every corner of the world, whilst his original productions and slick remixes make his studio skills the most in-demand and sought after in the business.

Yet, Mark Knight’s rise to number 42 in the DJ Mag Top 100 Poll (2008) has been more than just gigs and remixes. Not content with the status quo and outdated DJ ideas and methods, he created his own workshop for 21st century dance musicians, Toolroom Records, and with it a new way of thinking. Established in 2004, the Toolroom imprint has developed into an uncontrollable beast, forging an insatiable, genre busting sound, celebrating success as the biggest selling label on Beatport and reaching the milestone of 100 releases in 2009 with none other than Faithless as new label artists. All this on the back of 2008’s record breaking, award winning anthem ‘Man with the Red Face’, a remake, with label buddy Funkagenda, of the Laurent Garnier classic.

With Toolroom Records, Mark ripped up the rule book and pioneered the arrival of an era where the role of the DJ was more than just 2 hours behind the decks on a Saturday night. Pushing new boundaries and blending the lines between DJ and producer, Mark’s consistent stream of stellar tracks set a precedent that meant DJ dinosaurs had to shape up – DJs who don’t produce their own music have become extinct! Moreover, thanks to Mark, Toolroom has become a byword for cutting edge sounds and innovation within contemporary dance music, whether through underground sublabel ‘Toolroom Trax’ or their unparalleled pursuit of new electronic music talent.

And there’s more! Since 2006 ‘Toolroom Knights’ has provided the most visible, and hedonistic, face of Mark’s increasing popular clubbing brand, with concept led events in the world’s premier arenas from Cocoon (Frankfurt) to Space (Miami). It is testament to the popularity of Mark Knight the DJ that after a summer residency at Amnesia Ibiza in 2008, he currently holds court bimonthly at Ministry of Sound (London), the spiritual home of Toolroom Knights and also where Mark got his big break as club resident in 2003, as well as having recently confirmed new residencies at Pacha (New York) and Vanguard (Los Angeles).

If you haven’t already done so, it’s time to join Mark Knight on the global Toolroom rollercoaster through what modern day dance music is all about. Join the queue, hold tight and enjoy the ride
